Home Staging and Why it Matters

Written for Mark Middleton Real Estate.

WHAT IS STAGING?

A home stager shares a similar job to an interior designer. They are responsible for choosing paint and fabric colors, specific furniture pieces and home accessories appropriate for each room that allow your home to look its best, while appealing to a varied range of tastes. A home stager is able to evaluate certain deficiencies within the house and highlight others to create a happy, cohesive aesthetic environment. Simply put by Elizabeth Weintraub of The Balance, “Staging makes your house look bigger, brighter, cleaner, warmer, more loving and, best of all, it makes home buyers want to buy it.”

WHY STAGING MATTERS

All the world may not be a stage – but if your home is for sale, it certainly should be. Only 10% of possible home buyers can visualize the potential of a home, which means creating a unique and inviting space becomes especially crucial. Aiding a buyer in seeing their dream home also helps the property sell more quickly. A home that has been staged properly will sell approximately 40% faster than a home that has not been staged, according to Your Resource Realty. Dawna Johnson, an Accredited Staging Professional Master and owner of Sacramento Staging Solutions notes that without staging, a home will “probably remain on the market for many months."
